Carmina Damasceno, 81, of Pompano Beach, FL and formerly of Meadville, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at her residence surrounded by loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born January 26, 1926 in Alvignanello, Italy, a daughter of the late Guseppe Giano and Theresa Mastroianni. She married Luigi Damasceno October 28, 1951 and he preceded her in death October 16, 1988.
Carmina immigrated with her husband to the United States in 1952. They owned and operated a family deli and ice cream store on the Harmonsburg Road. She subsequently worked as a seamstress for 35 years at the former Weldon’s Clothing Store in Meadville.
She was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church.
A wonderful cook making everything from scratch, she was a hard working woman of strong religious beliefs, and family rituals and values. She was a former member of the Italian Civic Club.
Survivors include 2 sons, Nicolo A. Damasceno and his wife Grazia of Pompano Beach, FL and Luigi Damasceno, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Meadville; 2 daughters, Concetta Stoker and her husband Eugene of St. Louis, MO and Joanna Myers and her husband Michael of Bedford, IN; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Stoker of Philadelphia; Natalie Stoker of Kansas City, KS; Jenny Myers of Tampa, FL; Ben Myers of Bloomington, IN; and Gino, Sophia, Francesca, Mario, Pietro, and Gabriella Damasceno, all of Meadville; 3 brothers, Angelo Giano of Sernechia, Italy; Leucio Giano of Alvignanello, Italy; and Peter Giano of East Haven, CT; 2 sisters, Nunciata and Maria Giano, both of Castel Campangiano, Italy; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Nicola, Vito, and Francesco Giano; and 2 sisters, Antoinetta Giano and Rose Petrazzuoli.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer Service at 9:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville with Fr. James A. Reardon as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
