Carol A. (Smith) Witscher Barnard

October 28, 1943 — October 29, 2019

Carol A. Smith Witscher Barnard, 76, of Meadville died Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Meadville Medical Center following a short illness.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her welcoming and caring ways and good cooking.  We were lucky to have Carol in our lives

She was born October 28, 1943 in Meadville a daughter of Woodrow and Arlene Roae Smith.  She first married Andy Witscher and subsequently married Ronald O. (Barney) Barnard July 10, 1999 and he preceded her in death December 10, 2017.

She was a 1961 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School and worked as a supervisor in the Brooks dining hall at Allegheny College.

She was a member of St. Agatha Church, the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary and volunteered in the Coffee Shoppe, the Crawford County Care Center Auxiliary and the Eat and Travel Club.  She was a former member of the Saegertown Women’s Improvement Club and St. Teresa Church at Canadohta Lake.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed travel and crafting.  She was a friend to all and was loved by all she came in contact with.

She is survived by two sons, Dan Witscher (Katie) of Montoursville and Keith Witscher (Lori) of Saegertown; a daughter, Holly Markel of Montoursville; two step-daughters, Jan Ingram (Deke) of Clearwater, FL and Josie Hurdis (Jason) of Washington, IL; three sisters, Georgia Chalmers (Tom) of Meadville, Jane Bubna (Denis) of Saegertown and Joy Jordon (Mike) of Meadville; two brothers, Ron Smith (Jan) of Guys Mills and Fred Smith of Saegertown; eleven grandchildren, Stewart Heggie, Grace Hill, Michael Zika, Austin Markel, Breanna Markel, Colton Markel, Ashley Witscher, Andrew Witscher, Jessica Dickens, Jana Hurdis and Jennifer Hurdis Armstrong; two great grandchildren, Amelia Witscher and Wyatt Zika and many many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Smith Barickman and a nephew, Jeff Smith.

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 31st from 9 – 11:30 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 31st at 12:00 p.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine Street, Meadville with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Celebrant.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335 or the Crawford County Care Center, 20881 State Hwy 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.
