Carole J. Charlton

Carole J. Charlton, 81, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at the Crawford County Care Center.

She was born in Meadville November 21, 1933 a daughter of W. Paul and Georgia W. Shaffer Mitchell.  She married Frederic W. Charlton October 8, 1955 and he survives.

She was a 1951 graduate of Meadville High School and worked at the former American Viscose from 1951-1957, then part-time as a receptionist for Dr. Vinikas in the early 1970’s, as a bank teller for the former N/W PA Bank & Trust and Mellon Bank from 1977-1990 and as a receptionist at Alden Physical Therapy from 1990-1998.

She was a member of St. John’s Church of God.  She was an avid musician, mastering several different instruments and she recorded her music.  In her younger years, she played accordion in a square dance band and later played organ and piano for many weddings and church services in the area.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Fred of 59 years, include: four daughters, Linda Henderson and her husband Donald of Port Deposit, MD, Pamela O’Laughlin and her husband Dennis of Meadville, Janice Snidemiller and her husband Robert of Apex, NC and Mary Jo Sanks and her husband Anthoni of Saxonburg, PA; a son, Jeffrey Charlton and his wife Nira of Meadville; a sister, Kay Wetsell and her husband John of Edinboro; ten grandchildren, Charles Henderson, William Henderson, Alyssa Snidemiller, Abby Snidemiller, Celina Sanks, Julian Sanks, John O’Laughlin, Julia O’Laughlin, Brooke Charlton and Morgan Charlton; a daughter-in-law, Heather Charlton of Meadville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Charlton of Meadville and Phyllis Harris of Indianapolis and two nieces, Christine Stainbrook of Meadville and Kelly Burek of Saegertown.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Charlton and a grandson, Donovan Sanks.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John Church of God, 7474 Mercer Pike, Meadville with Rev. Greggory R. Giles, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
