Mrs. Caroline A. McGill, 104, died at her home in Meadville, Monday morning. She had been in failing health for some time.
For several years, Mrs. McGill had been the oldest person in Crawford County, yet because of her keen interest in world and national affairs, had a certain air of youth about her. She had not been able to read recently because of failing eyesight, but could do some kinds of needlework, and was a faithful radio listener, especially to news broadcasts. Her memory and all mental faculties were unimpaired until last day of her life.
The widow of William R. McGill, she was the mother of nine children, six of whom survive. They are E. E. McGill of New Castle, John M. McGill of Oil City, Miss Jessie A. McGill of Meadville, A. R. McGill of Oil City, Earl W. McGill of Meadville, and Neil W. McGill of Cleveland, OH. Thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. McGill was born at Geneva, April 13, 1842, and had lived in Crawford County all her life.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Harmonsburg. Her husband - farmer, dairyman, and lumberman - died in 1920. He served as county deputy sheriff in 1870 and as a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1892.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Saegertown Cemetery.
