Carolyn B. (Brownell) Arthur

January 30, 1899 — July 7, 1995

Carolyn B. Arthur, 96, of Meadville, died Friday, July 7, 1995, at home following a period of declining health.

She was born in Punxsutawney, January 30, 1899, a daughter of Ross E. and Emma (Clover) Brownell.  She married Herman H. Fahr, January 1, 1921.  He preceded her in death, November 13, 1939.  She subsequently married William C. Arthur, November 16, 1940.  He preceded her in death on August 30, 1967.

She had attended Allegheny College where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and had also attended Hood College for Women, Frederick, MD.  She was a former member of both the City and Spencer Hospital Auxiliaries.  She was an honorary member of the Antique Study Club and had served on the board of directors of Hillside Home.  She had a life long love for animals and was a founding member of the Humane Society of Crawford County on whose board she had served since its inception.  She was also a member of Stone United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Fahr Kirkpatrick of Tucson, AZ; two stepsons, William C. Arthur, Jr. of Jaffrey, NH and Dr. James H. Arthur of Aurora, CO; two grandsons, four great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother, John E. Brownell.

Services were held at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Paul R. Borneman, Jr. pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
