Carolyn Jean Lewis

May 8, 1950 — December 4, 2020

Carolyn Gatewood Lewis, age 70, lost her battle with COVID on December 4, 2020. Carolyn spent her life nurturing and caring for others. She and her late husband, Charlie, dedicated their lives to helping others. Their door was always open and usually resulted in a house full of people, which Carolyn loved. She got so much enjoyment over how many people called her Grandma. Carolyn enjoyed traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and their friends, watching hummingbirds, collecting cookbooks, sewing, and cooking for others. Some of her favorite stories to tell were about her trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and South Dakota. Carolyn was born in Elkins, WV. She is a 1968 Lakeview graduate. She worked in the library at the school until she married her lifelong companion. They spent 40 years together, raising children and working at their various businesses. Carolyn enjoyed years of service with the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered her time with Meals-on-Wheels. Prior to illness, Carolyn was an overnight cashier at County Market. She loved her job, which brought her so much joy. She will deeply miss her customers & coworkers. Carolyn is survived at home by her best friend and great-grandson, Zackary; her daughter, Melissa Lewis; & grandchildren Caitlyn Knight, Brittney Knight and Thomas Lewis. Carolyn also leaves behind her Mother, Ruby Purks (Stoneboro), Siblings Marvin (Janey) Gatewood, Willie (Beverly) Gatewood, Cheryl (Bob) Carlson, Susie (Dave) Wagner, Jack (Karen) Egger, David (Carol) Gatewood, Jim Jaskowak & George Egger; Sons-in-law, Bob (Sheryl) Wilson, Ron Bromley, Kevin McEwen & Tim Mayerchak and daughters Elma DeCarmine, Vicky Lewis, Bev (Dick) Stover, Sandy (Steve) Woge and Heather Ryan. She leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lewis Sr, her sons Charles Lewis Jr. & Michael Lewis, her great-grandson Mitchell Reams Jr., her brother Tom Egger, sisters-in-law Linda Egger & Pat Jaskowak & her father & step-mother Clint & Dorothy Gatewood. It was Carolyns wishes to not have funeral or viewing services. COVID took Carolyns life way too soon.
