Catherine E. King, 96, of Conneaut Lake and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there, Sunday, September 07, 2014.
She was born July 14, 1918 in Greenville a daughter of Thomas and Eunice Cullum Junk. She married Charles L. King September 15, 1950 and he survives.
She was a 1938 graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic School in Greenville and a 1940 graduate of the former Spencer Hospital School of Nursing in Meadville. She was a veteran of World War II enlisting in the US Army July 7, 1941 and serving in Europe with the 412th Evacuation Hospital achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She also was stationed in Panama, Puerto Rico and at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She served until July 14, 1946, following which she received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Providence (RI) Lying-In Hospital (now Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island). She then moved to Sharon and taught obstetrics nursing at Sharon Hospital, then worked briefly at Greenville Hospital before moving to Meadville where she worked as an Obstetrics Nurse Manager at Spencer hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake, life member and Past Commander of Meadville American Legion Post #891, life member of Linesville VFW Post #7842, life member of Conneaut Lake Vol. Fire Dept. Station #7 and Conneaut Lake Park Vol. Fire Dept. Station 5.
Survivors, in addition to her husband Charles, of 64 years, include: five children, Cathy King of Conneaut Lake, Nancy King of Lander, WY, Timothy King of Westminster, CO, Renee Hinderliter and her life partner Raymond Roiz of Meadville and Col. Mary Ann King of Henderson, NV; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Nardone, Mark Miller, Jeffery Waechter, Melissa Waechter Williams and her husband Simon, Grant Hinderliter, Jillian Hinderliter, Logan Hinderliter and Sara King; two great grandchildren, Jacob Nardone and Taylor Kaikowski; a sister, Patricia Patterson of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Major Michele Waechter; a granddaughter, Ruth Ann Hinderliter; a brother, Thomas Junk and two sisters, Anna Margaret Wellman and Julia Alice Cannon.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake, PA.
The funeral service will follow Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mark L. Frailey, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake, officiating and military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
