Catherine P. Hood

December 6, 1920 — April 16, 2001

Catherine P. Hood, 80, of Meadville, and a resident of the David Mead Inn since September 1998, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.

She was born in Meadville, December 6, 1920, a daughter of George H. and Mildred Lupher Hood.

She was a graduate of Meadville High School, a 1943 graduate of Allegheny College with a BA in Classics and she received her Masters degree in Latin from the University of Michigan.  She retired in June 1983 as an English and Latin high school teacher in the Washington Township School District.  In her retirement she taught courses at Allegheny College and substituted at Crawford Central schools.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and was a former Deacon, Elder and head of the Nominating Committee.  She was a member of the Mead Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, member and past president of the Meadville Women's Club, past president of the State Women's Club, member of the MMC Aux. and the Meadville Literary Union.  She was a former member of the New Kensington Hospital Aux. and a former volunteer of the New Kensington Red Cross.

Survivors include a sister, Marion E. Baker of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews, great niece and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jeanne Hood and two brothers, Richard C. Hood and Robert J. Hood.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
