Mrs. Catherine S. Whitlock Hendershot, widow of R. Elmer Hendershot, died at her home in Meadville, Wednesday, October 28, 1959. She would have been 94 on Sunday.
Mrs. Hendershot, long active in the city's civic and cultural organizations, was born at Marlboro, NJ, November 1, 1865. With her husband, she came to Meadville in 1901, where he became a teacher at Alden Academy, the preparatory school of Allegheny College.
She was a member of Stone Methodist Church, the Philomathesian Club and the Traveler's Club. She was a charter member of the Women's Club and retained her membership continuously since its beginning in 1924.
Until recent years, Mrs. Hendershot was able to read extensively, and always had a keen interest in world and community affairs.
She is survived by two daughters, Miss Mary P. Hendershot, at home; and Miss Catherine A. Hendershot of New York City; a brother, D. W. M. Whitlock of Orange City, FL; and two sisters, Miss Ann Whitlock and Mrs. Ira Sheppard of Red Bank, NJ.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
