C.D. 'Booky' Bookwalter

July 19, 1913 — November 14, 2007

C.D. “Booky” Bookwalter, 94, formerly of 17587 Huson Road, Saegertown and a current resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there, Monday, November 19, 2007.

He was born July 19, 1913 in Clark, PA (Mercer Co.) a son of Harry Clayton and Margaret J. Douglas Bookwalter.  He married Thelma Weaver April 2, 1938 and she preceded him in death December 7, 2006.

He was a dairy farmer for 33 years retiring in 1983.  Previously he had worked as a truck driver and an office worker for Golden Dawn Foods in Sharon.

He was a veteran of World War II with the US Army Rangers and the 760th Field Artillery Battalion serving in the Pacific theater.  He was wounded during the war and he refused to be awarded the Purple Heart after seeing how American POW’s were treated.

He and his wife lived on Huson Road for over 60 years.  They worked side by side through the depression, World War II and the farming years.  He had a strong faith and lived his life by the Holy Bible and through Baptist fellowship.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis T. Bookwalter and William D. Bookwalter.

Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  Additional calling hour will be Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Barco Chapel of Grace Nursing Center of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Barco Chapel with the Rev. A. Richard Bish, officiating.

Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
