Charles B. Barris, 87, of Meadville, died Monday, August 17, 1998, in Meadville Medical Center's transitional care unit following a brief illness.
He was born in Emlenton, April 20, 1911, a son of Charles E. and Hattie A. Sheffer Barris. He married Grace Irene Klingensmith, May 10, 1933. She survives.
He graduated from Emlenton High School in 1927. In 1931 he graduated from Allegheny College where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.
He worked for the former Talon Inc. in Meadville for 34 years, retiring in 1975. He previously worked as a foreman for the Works Progress Administation prior to World War II.
He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge 110.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Shirley) Reeger of Meadville; a son, Edward Barris (Jeanne) of Meadville; a granddaughter, Connie Dolan of Columbia, NJ; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Arvilla Barris and Evelyn Anderson.
Services were held at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
