Charles B. Walton

Charles B. "Chub" Walton, 93, of Plank Road, Meadville, PA, died Wednesday December 24, 2003 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, PA following a lengthy illness. He was born at Wayland, East Mead Twp., Crawford Co., PA, November 2, 1910, a son of the late J. Clifford & Etta May (Beatty) Walton. He married Mildred Dearborn November 16, 1946, and she survives. He was a graduate of Meadville High School. He retired in 1972 as a spinner for the FMC Corp., formerly the American Viscose Co. after 28 years of service. He had also operated the family farm in Wayland for many years, having been born in the same home in which he resided his entire life, making "Shady Acres Farm" a very important part of his life. Although not a carpenter, he assisted the general contractor on the building of the Pleasantview Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, as well as helping two of his sons establish their homes on Walton Hill. Most recently he attended Lyona Bible Church. He had a life-long involvement in the Wayland Cemetery Assn., having served on the board of Directors for many years. Survivors in addition to his wife of 57 years include, 4 sons, William C. Walton and his wife Gail of Meadville, the Rev. Gerald D. (Jerry) Walton and his wife Carol of Meadville, the Rev. Dr. Harold W. Walton of Waynesboro, and Clyde A. Walton and his wife Marie of Dover, NH, 9 grandchildren, Gwendolyn A. Hannold and her husband Pat of Saegertown, James D. Walton, Jennifer R. Such and her husband Jeff of Bethel Park, Jill B. Johnson and her husband Samuel of Franklin, TN, Joshua W. B. Walton, Joy M. Walton, Jacob D. Walton, Joseph B. H. Walton, and Johannah G. Walton all of Meadville, 9 great grandchildren, and also nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, C. Howard Walton, an infant daughter, Norma E. Walton, 3 sisters, Lina L. Theuret, Marian V. Burton, Dorothy I. Zaar, and 1 brother, J. Earl Walton. Calling hours will be Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Walton, and Rev. Dr. Harold Walton, sons, officiating. Burial will be in Wayland Cemetery.
