Charles Butler Jelbart

January 31, 1898 — January 12, 1978

Charles Butler Jelbart, 79, of Meadville, died Thursday, January 12, 1978, at City Hospital.  He had been ill for several years.

A son of the Rev. J. H. and Fannie Butler Jelbart, he was born at Johnsonburg, January 31, 1898.  He married Blanche (Peggy) Ewing, November 17, 1920.  After 33 years employment by the S. M. Flickinger, Co., he retired as Erie branch manager.  He later worked for 17 years for the C. C. DeVore Lumber Co.

A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a former elder of the church.  He attended Allegheny College and was a member of Alpha Chi Rho social fraternity.  He was a 50-year member of United Commerical Travelers.  A past master of Masonic Lodge 408, he was past thrice illustrious master of Timothy Alden Council 60, past most excellent high priest of Solomon Arch Chapter 191, and past commander of NW Commandery, Knights Templar.  He was a recipient of Knights Templar York Cross of Honor.  He was a life member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Jamestown, NY.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Mrs. Maurice (Dorothy) McKee of Meadville;  and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
