Charles E. Burns, 64, of Saegertown died Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
He was born October 30, 1952 in Meadville a son of John A. and Autumn Jean Bossard Burns. He married Susan J. Humes December 30, 1972 and she survives.
He was a 1970 graduate of Saegertown High School and the Crawford County Vo-Tech from the agri-business program. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the US Army from 1972-1974 as the last draftee from Crawford County. He returned from the war and worked for 28 years at Makco Manufacturing in Edinboro before starting Burns Metal Production with his wife in 2000.
He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and served as the chair of its Administrative Board and served on its board of trustees. Chuck was a very devout man and truly believed that Christ led him in life.
He was chairman of the Draft Horse Department at the Crawford County Fair for the past two decades and also served on the fair’s Building Committee. He was very proud to be continuing the family tradition of showing draft horses at the Crawford County Fair, something his ancestors began at the first fair. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and cooking a good meal on the grill. He was an avid hunter and loved spending time with his band of brothers in the John Burns Hunt Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Susan of 44 years, include: a daughter, Melissa Dawn Scouten and her husband Eric of Centerville; a grandson, Elliot Scouten; three sisters, Sandra Boyd, Deborah Curry and her husband Walter and Peggy Johnson and her husband Mark all of Saegertown; two brother’s-in-law, Glenn Humes and his wife Janet of Meadville and Sam Humes and his wife Jackie of Savannah, GA; a sister-in-law, Carol Steiger and her husband Gerald of Meadville and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Edith Bossard.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, INC., 581 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Alice McClymonds, Pastor of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment with military honors will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
