Charles E. Crandall

June 21, 1891 — January 1, 1753

Charles E. Crandall, 65, president of Keystone View, Co., died suddenly yesterday morning at his office on Market Street.  Death was attributed to a heart attack, according to an attending physician.

The well-known civic leader banker and industrialist succumbed shortly after he arrived at his office in the Keystone View Co. building.  Friends and associates reported he had no previous record of heart trouble.

Crandall was prominent in area industrial circles, particularly in the field of visual education in schools and other training institutions using stereoscopic equipment.

He was born June 21, 1891, in Almond, NY, a son of the late E. E. and Adelaide Crandall.  Following his graduation from business college he was employed by the Erie Railroad as clerk and cheif clerk in the mechanical and store departments in various cities, including Meadville.

He became affiliated with Keystone View Co. in 1916 when it was located in the Fifth Ward.  He served in the capacities of accountant, treasurer, secretary-treasurer, general manager and president.  He also was a director of the company.

He was a director of the Crawford County Trust Co.

Crandall was a member of Meadville Chamber of Commerce, serving as its presdient in 1932-33, a member and past president of Meadville Country Club and a member and past trustee of First Presbyterian Church.

He was a director of City Hospital and in June of this year completed five years as president of the board.   He had been a board member since 1934.  He also was a member of the board of corporators.

He was a charter member of Meadville Lions Club but had been inactive in the club for several years.  He was a member of the Iroquois Club, Taylor Hose Company, and a 32nd Degree Mason and was affiliated with Zem Zem Shrine, Erie.

He is survived by his widow Myrtle Agnes, whom he married in 1911.  A daughter, Mrs. John Shyrock, Limber Road, and two grandchildren also survive.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
