Charles E. Flagg

November 2, 1939 — June 3, 1999

Charles E. Flagg, 59, of Centerville, PA, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at his residence, following an illness of the past year.

He was born in Meadville, November 2, 1939, a son of Charles and Iyla Davison Flagg.  He married Lois Davison January 12, 1966, and she survives.

He was a 1958 graduate of Townville High School, and he served with the US Army in Korea during the Vietnam War.  He was a life member and legislative supporter of the National Rifle Assn., a life member of the American Motorcycle Assn., a member of Retreads International and a member of Goldwing Road Riders Assn.  He helped organize and participate with motorcyclists in many fundraising events for the benefit of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Community Health Services and the Erie City Mission.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener, who enjoyed teaching his skills to others.  He had been employed as a 2nd shift supervisor for Blazon, Inc. of Linesville, also as a heavy equipment operator, foreman, mechanic and pipeline welder for Utility Constructors; D. L. Smathers Construction, Smathers Construction and Kapanik Construction.  HE was a former instructor of the Motorcycle Safety Program.  He recently retired as a supervisor of the Driver's Exam.  Center at Buffalo Road in Erie, for PennDOT's Bureau of Driver's Licensing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 33 years, include two daughters, Jean Flagg of Meadville and Tammy Pinkhouse (Michael) of Meadville; a son, Greg Flagg of Union City; four grandchildren, Brian Flagg, Jeffrey Flagg, Christopher Pinkhouse and Mary Jean Lohiser; his mother, Iyla Swinson of Union Cityl his father and step-mother, Charles and Myrna Flagg of Meadville; a stepsister; two stepbrothers; and numerous aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and his stepfather, Dalton Reynolds.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
