Charles F. Mullen, 87, of Meadville died Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born in Hayfield Twp., April 22, 1928 a son of Lloyd H. and Viola Mary Siegrist Mullen, Sr. He married Donna J. Andrews January 20, 1951 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School. He received an associate degree in commercial art from Edinboro University in 1948 and a Bachelor of Science degree in art education in 1953. He completed his master’s in art education in 1962 from Penn State University. He taught for 13 years in Conneaut Lake and Townville Schools before joining the Art Department faculty at Edinboro University. He drafted a syllabus for a Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Communication Graphics which was approved for implementation in 1974. He taught communication graphics at Edinboro until he retired in 1985. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 1984 and after retiring was granted emeritus status for excellence in teaching and service to the University and profession.
He also enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, carving decoys and gardening. He especially enjoyed his several trips to Alaska salmon fishing. He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and a member of the NRA.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Donna, of 64 years, include: two sons, David Mullen of Jamesville, NC and Dale Mullen of Meadville; a daughter, Dawn Muntean of Meadville; five grandchildren, Julia Muntean, Andrew Muntean, Dalton Mullen, Andrea Mullen and Dana Mullen; two great granddaughters, Adryanna and Alaina Mullen; four sisters, Connie Durish, Pat Lafferty, June Peterson and Donna Mullen and her husband Joe all of Meadville and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. Mullen and a brother, Lloyd H. Mullen, Jr.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will follow Saturday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Sarah Roncolato, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
