Charles H. Phillips

Charles H. Phillips, 95, of Meadville and formerly of Sun City, CA, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born September 15, 1924 in Oil City, a son of James and Edith Davenport Phillips.  He married Marjorie Burdick March 25, 1967 and she preceded him in death June 7, 2017.

Charlie was a graduate of Oil City High School and was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations aboard the USS Canberra.  After serving bravely in World War II, he served the remainder of his 20 years of active service in the United States submarine fleet.

Charlie worked as a tractor trailer driver for the teamsters union hauling refined products.  An avid golfer, he was a lifetime member of the United States Golf Association and in retirement, worked at Cherry Hills Golf Club, Sun City.

Survivors include four brothers, Robert Phillips (Leta Mae) of Cambridge Springs, Paul Phillips (Delores) of Sun City, CA, Larry Phillips of Knox, and Dennis Phillips (Bobbi) of Chester, WV; two sisters, Shirley McHugh of Meadville and Beverly Skaggs of Visalia, CA; numerous nieces and nephews including Todd Phillips (Janette) with whom he resided; and a great-great-niece, Natalie Combs with whom he was especially close.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James and William Phillips.

Calling hours will be Monday, July 20th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Watson Run Church of God, 9985 S. Watson Run Rd., Meadville where CDC guidelines for the wearing of masks will be followed.  The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Hough, Pastor, officiating and military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.

Interment will be in Miller’s Station Cemetery.
