Charles J. Barrows

October 30, 1885 — October 20, 1979

Charles J. Barrows, 93, died at home Saturday, October 20, 1979, following a period of failing health.

He was born in Meadville October 30, 1885, son of Charles W. and Ella M. Adams Barrows.  He first married Margaret Bennington on February 14, 1912, and she died January 6, 1971.  He then married Elizabeth Pratt on October 30, 1973.

Barrows retired in 1946 as a parcel post carrier for the US Post Office Department where he worked for 38 years.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408, Zem Zem Shrine Temple and the Oil Creek Beagle Club of Titusville.  Barrows raised and trained beagels and participated in beagle field trials.

He was a life member of the Erie Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies; Meadville Sportsmen's Club and the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers.

In addition to his wife, Barrows is survived by by step-sons, Bruce E. Carpenter and John M. Carpenter; and several nieces.  He was preceded in death by a brother, James.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was at Greendale Cemetery.
