Charles J. Jones

Charles J. Jones, 82, of 296 Church St., Meadville, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie.

He was born in Meadville June 1, 1926, a son of the late Charles Leroy and Blanche Lambert Jones.  He married Helen Buza June 26, 1948 and she preceded him in death April 1, 2002.

Charles was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the Battle of the Saar Basin as a member of the 12-man squad of the 90th Division.  He acted as a Scout and was wounded in action.  He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Battle Star, World War II Victory Medal, and the American Campaign Ribbon.

Charles worked at Meadville Malleable and Amcast where he retired in 1990 as a production manager.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville and enjoyed golfing, watching sporting events on television and especially loved his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church.

Survivors include 2 sons, Charles Michael Jones and his wife Laurie of Meadville and Mark David Jones and his wife Melissa of Cortland, OH; 2 brothers, James Jones and John Jones, both of Meadville; 8 grandchildren, Theodore Jones of Pittsburgh, Meghan Jones of Meadville, and Danielle, Matthew, Andrew, Christina, Ryan, and Ashley Jones, all of Cortland, OH; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Jones and a sister, Arlene Wiley.

Calling hours are today (Thursday) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 6:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville.

Entombment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 Scholarship Fund, 1045 S. Morgan St., Meadville, PA 16335.
