Charles James Walker, Jr., 68, of Meadville, an engineer, died Tuesday, January 4, 1994, at home following an extended illness.
He was born in Meadville, June 9, 1925 a son of Charles J. and Jennie Ella Lynch Walker, Sr. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Jenkins, November 30, 1946. She survives.
He was a staff engineer and electrical designer at Westinghouse, Sunbeam and FMC Corp. plants in Meadville. He was a member of St. Brigid's Roman Catholic Church and was a former choir member of the church. He was a graduate of Meadville High School and attended Behrend campus of Pennsylvania State University.
He was a WWII veteran, having served as a musician in the Marine Band and Drum and Bugle Corps. He also served with the Marines stateside during the Korean War. He was an active musician. He was a charter member of the Thunberbird Drum and Bugle Corp and served as its business manager for many years. He was a judge for the Great Lakes Judging Assn. He was a charter member of Meadville Community Theatre and Yesterday's Sound barbershop chorus. He was a district counselor for the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.
He was a founding member of the Auriel Bachiak Detachment of the Marine Corps League and a member of American Legion Post 111 of Meadville. He was a former member of the Meadville Management Club; the entertainment committee of the Crawford County Mental Health Assn.; the Meadville Kiwanis Club; the Meadville Male Chorus; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Charles J. Walker, II of Olean, NY and Jeffry Walker of Hartford, CT; two sisters, Virginia Keim of Huntingdon and Elizabeth (Bess) Hasson of Cuyahoga Falls, OH and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in St. Brigid's Cemetery.
