Charles M. “Chuck” Rice, 89, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since February 1999 and formerly of Park Avenue, died at Wesbury Sunday, June 15, 2003.
He was born in Meadville October 19, 1913 a son of Frank Ellis and Blanche Garrison Rice. He married Winifred L. VanMarter June 14, 1941 and he preceded her in death March 9, 1988.
He retired in 1979 as Vice-President of Pennbank after 30 years of service to it and its predecessor banks.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and was its treasurer for 22 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #408, York Rite Bodies of N/W PA, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie and the Crawford County Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Vernon Grange and the Crawford County Pomona Grange #26. He also served on the Board of Greendale Cemetery and was its secretary/treasurer for 25 years.
Survivors, include a son, Robert L. Rice and his wife Donna of Dayton, OH; two granddaughters, Cynthia Rice Teague and Carol Rice Collins; five great grandchildren and a brother H. Lynn Rice of Punta Gorda, FL. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carolyn Mae Rice and an infant brother, Frank Clifford Rice.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335. A Masonic service will be Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gregory Street, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville or Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
