Charles W. (Charlie) Powell

January 28, 1905 — April 7, 2001

Charles W. (Charlie) Powell, 96, of Meadville, died Saturday, April 7, 2001 at his residence following a period of declining health.

He was born January 28, 1905 in Woodcock Township, a son of the late Jeff and Laura Clay Powell.  He married Mildred M. DeRouchie August 16, 1944 and she preceded him in death May 2, 2000.

He was owner and operator of Powell Sanitation for many years, retiring in 1978.  He previously worked as a farmer and auctioneer.  He operated Charlie Powell's Restaurant at the Crawford County and Waterford Fairs for over 50 years.  It was the first restaurant at the Crawford County fair.  He especially enjoyed going to flea markets with family both locally and in Florida.

He attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Skillsky (Bill) of Guys Mills, Annabelle Price (Paul) of Meadville, Rosemarie Dewey (Dale) of Guys Mills and Donna Trypus of Meadville; four sons, Harold Powell of Saegertown, Gary Powell of Meadville, Timothy Powell (Linda) of Meadville and William Powell of Saegertown; twelve grandchildren, Richard Trypus, Dana Osborne, Gary Powell, Jr., Rhonda Powell, Shavonne Powell, Eric Powell, Shawn Powell, Dustin Powell, Teresa Skillsky, Wally Skillsky, David Dewey, Dorothy Anderson, Frank Delmadaglia, Jr., Mary Ann White and Rosie Erickson and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Lawrence Powell and three sisters, Mildred, Lenora and Agnes.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
