Charles R. Sargent

Charles R. Sargent, 90 of 10275 Kennedy Hill Road, and a patient at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, died at Meadville Medical Center Wednesday November 1, 2006.

He was born in Springboro, September 24, 1916, a son of J. Anson and Mary Carr Sargent.  He was first married to Leona Hershelman Nov. 23, 1937, and he subsequently married B. Lois Chaney Oct. 31, 1957, and she preceded him in death September 28, 2002.

Charles was a Corporal with the U. S. Army serving from 1935 to 1939 with Co. “G” of the 66th Infantry, a light tank unit.

He had been employed at one time by Albro Packing of Springboro, the Bessemer Railroad, PennDot, and had retired from FMC as a machine operator after 21 years of service.

He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and the PA Assn. of Retired State Employees.

Survivors include 1 daughter, Nancy Lou DeArment and her husband Richard of Fairview, and one son, Charles R. Sargent, Jr. and his wife Yvonne of Albion,  5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by 1 grandson, and 2 brothers, John and Cassius Sargent.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. William Brown, Associate Pastor of Stone United Methodist, officiating.

Burial with military honors provided by VFW Post 2006 will be in Greendale Cemetery.
