Charles R. Van Tassel

Charles R. Van Tassel, 81, of Blooming Valley, died Monday, December 25, 1989 at Meadville Medical Center following an extended illness.

He was born in Erie County, April 5, 1908, a son of Jefferson M. and Mabel Magill Van Tassel.  He married Mabel Drake Carpenter in June 1923.  She survives.

He retired in 1972 from the Riley-Stoker Corp. of Worcester, MA, where he had been employed as a draftsman.  He was a member of the Blooming Valley United Methodist Church.  He was a life member of the National Rifle Assn. and past president of the Massachusetts Rifle and Pistol Assn.  He was past president of the Blooming Valley Borough Council and a member of the Blooming Valley Zoning Committee.  He was past vice chairman of the Northwest Regional PA Planning and Development Commission and an active member of the Meadville Sportsman's Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Carl of Deerfield Beach, FL and Glenn of Guys Mills; a step-daughter, Mrs. Dane (Clara) Hogan of Blooming Valley; a step-son, John Campbell of Greeley CO; five step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a one sister and two brothers.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
