Charles Richard Bortner, Sr., 74, formerly of Meadville, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 in Zephyrhills, FL.
He was born January 22, 1941 in Meadville a son of Charles E. and Marie Ethridge Bortner. He married Jane Lippert April 8, 1961 and she survives.
He worked construction as a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #449. Known as Big Chuck and Papa to many, he enjoyed fishing, camping, tending a nice campfire, making his special beef jerky and sticks and spending time with his family and friends. He was very kind hearted and was always willing to help someone in need. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Jane of 54 years, include: four children, Pam Adsit and her husband James of Edinboro, Dana Lee and her companion Joe Campbell of Conneautville, Chuck Bortner, Jr. and his fiancée Dawn Uveno of Conneautville and Michele Peterson and her husband Larry of Meadville; four grandchildren, Shaun Bortner and his wife Angie, Ryan Bortner, Clay Bortner and his companion Brooke and Kyle Peterson; two great grandchildren, Annabelle and Rawley Bortner; two sisters, Pat Wilcox of Erie and Betsy Henson of Tucson, AZ and two aunts, Lois and Joanne.
He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Chuck and Dorothy Hager.
A memorial service is being planned for July 2016.
