Charles S. “Chuck” Garrigus, 87, of 964 Leslie Road, Meadville, died at home Friday, September 24, 2004.
He was born March 7, 1917 in Marion, IN a son of Howard S. and Ethel Williams Garrigus of North East, PA. He married Winifred Tyler Shaffer March 3, 1972 and she survives.
He retired in 1981 as Corporate Quality Assurance Audit Manager from Talon after 43 years of service. He was a past member of Erie Engineering Society and the American Society for Quality Control.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville, Masonic Lodge #408, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Coudersport, a Noble of the Mystic Shrine – Zem Zem Temple in Erie, a member of the Crawford County Shrine Club, Zem Zem Motor Patrol where he served as Treasurer, Vice-President and President, also the Zem Zem Motorized Units where he served as Treasurer, Vice-President and President and a member of Kismet Grotto. He was also a member of Pennsylvania Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, a life member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219, the American Radio Relay League having been a licensed Ham Radio operator for over 50 years holding an Extra Class License, the Quarterly Century Wireless Association and the Crawford County Amateur Radio Association.
He was a 1935 graduate of North East High School and he enjoyed Ham Radio and the many friends worldwide he made. He also enjoyed his computer and above all his many years with his wife, the 15 winters they spent at Scottish Highlands in Leesburg, FL and their many other trips.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Winifred of 33 years, include: one son, Charles Roger Garrigus of Conneaut, OH; one daughter, Janet Kathleen Spradlin and her husband Victor of Columbus, OH; two step-daughters, Paulette Yurchick and her husband Larry of New Kensington, PA and Colleen Derby and her husband David of Saegertown; one sister Mary Ruth Burnham of North East; ten grandchildren, Robert, Mark, Debra, Dyonne, Brian, Brent, Samantha, Jeffery, Heather and Bethany, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy Frances Garrigus.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where a Masonic service will be held at 7:15 p.m.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505-5097.
