Charles M. (Chuck) Waltenbaugh, 95, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, died there Tuesday, January 13, 2009 after a period of declining health.
He was born in Huntington County, Indiana July 17, 1913, a son of the late Edward M. and Effie Moore Waltenbaugh. He married Pauline M Graham April 20, 1935 and she preceded him in death April 2, 1997. He subsequently married Catherine Kost April 26, 2002 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School, had been employed briefly at Talon, and then attended the Life Underwriting Training Council.
Chuck was a longtime life insurance agent in Meadville representing the former Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co., having joined with his father-in-law, John C. Graham in the insurance business.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a former Deacon and Elder. He was a 58-year member of the Meadville Rotary Club, having served as President in 1957-58, and District Governor of Rotary District 7280 in Northwest PA in 1970-71, and was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He was a member of Round Table, a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge 234, Meadville, the Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Erie, and the Crawford County Shrine Club.
In his business and civic involvements he had served on the former Marine Bank Advisory Board, the Advisory Board of the former Crawford County Vocational Technical School, the advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Past President of the Crawford County Life Underwriters, Past President of the Crawford County Estate Planners, Chairman of the Board of the PA Easter Seal Camp-Lend-a-Hand, and a Trustee of the Presbyterian Homes.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Catherine, include one daughter, Betty Hart and her husband Glenn of Grove City, 2 grandchildren, Jeffrey Hart and his wife Donna and Sally Cline and her husband Thomas, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Additionally, he is survived by 3 step-sons, Peter Kost and his wife Judy of Centerville, Frank Kost and his wife Anne of Schenectady, NY, and Eric Kost and his wife Jeri of Perrysburg, OH, 14 step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward J. Waltenbaugh and a brother, Lloyd Waltenbaugh.
A private family service will be held with burial in Greendale Cemetery.
A public visitation and memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
