Charles W. Webb

December 25, 1899 — January 5, 1953

Charles W. Webb, of Meadville, one-time Democratic congressional candidate from this district, died Monday at City Hospital following a brief illness.

Mr. Webb, who was head of Webb and Associates, Erie, was born in Springfield, O, in 1899.  He moved to Meadville approximately, 11 years ago.  He was defeated in the congressional elections in 1946 by Carroll D. Kearns.

He had a varied business career, serving with companies in cities throughout the eastern half of the country.  In 1944 and 1945, he was ration executive of the Erie district office of the OPA and later was with the war assets administration in Cleveland.

A graduate of Wittenburg College at Springsfield, Mr. Webb was a member of Alpha Tau Omega, social fraternity.  He was a member of the Masonic blue lodge at Springfield; the consistory at Cleveland and Zem Zem Shrine at Erie.  He was a veteran of WWI, and a member of the Marine Corps League, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.  He belonged, also, to the Erie County Sportsmen.  In Meadville, he was a member of Stone Methodist Church.

Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Earl Raysor of Meadville; his mother, Mrs. Carolyn Harbor of Springfield, OH and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
