Clair E. Burchard

Clair E. Burchard, 83, of Guys Mills, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

He was born March 24, 1930 in Guys Mills, a son of Harry and Eleanor Rough Burchard.  He married Marjorie Byham September 30, 1950 and she survives.

Clair was a 1948 graduate of Randolph East Mead High School.  He worked as a career carpenter and was well known for his quality craftsmanship.  He was a former member of the Randolph Township Volunteer Fire Dept. and former board member and past president of Union Cemetery Assn.  Clair enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, Maplewood basketball and woodworking.  He crafted many of the furniture items in his house as well as in the homes of his children.  His family was his priority and he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Clair was a member of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Marjorie of 63 years, include five daughters, Linda Hanson and her husband Robert of Edinboro, Barbara Hill of Franklin, Mona Buschak and her husband James of Edinboro, Laura Conaway of Guys Mills, and Patricia Oakes and her husband Todd of Guys Mills; twelve grandchildren, Robert Hanson, III and his wife Roxanne, Sarah Hanson Smith and her husband Adam, Timothy Hanson, Brett Hill and his wife Amanda, Andrew Buschak, Ashley Paszko and her husband Kyle, Abby Buschak, Rachael Pavlik and her husband Lucas, Stephanie Conaway, Kyle Conaway, Kenneth Oakes, and Ruthanne Oakes; eight great-grandchildren, Grace and Claire Smith, Savannah and Robby Hanson, Anden Hill, Hayleigh and Shelby Paszko, and Ethan Pavlik; two brothers, Merle Burchard and his wife Carol of Greenville and Bruce Burchard and his wife Nancy of Guys Mills; a sister, Wanda Richael of Stoneboro; a sister-in-law, Martha Burchard of Meadville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Hill; a son-in-law, James Conaway; three sisters, Jennie Burchard, Harriet Porter, and Wilmina McGinnis; and a brother, Harry Burchard.

Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Cliff Forbes and Rev. Temple Jarrell, Pastors of New Beginnings Church of God and the Rev. David Coddington, Pastor of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, officiating.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
