Clair H. Allen, Sr.

Clair H. Allen, Sr., 86, of Meadville, died Tuesday, November, 10, 1970 at City Hospital.

He was the secretary-manager of Crawford County Motor Club from 1934-62.  Under his management, the Motor Club expanded its membership form 150 to 5,400 members.

Mr. Allen was born in Stockton Township, Chautauqua County, NY, July 6, 1884, a son of Nelson E. and Cynthia Mason Allen.  He moved to Meadville in 1896 at the age of 12.  He was married to the former Julia E. Corrigan November 21, 1907.  She died in 1964.

He attended Meadville schools and graduated from Meadville Commercial College.

Mr. Allen was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge 234, serving as master in 1911; Soloman Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, serving as high priest in 1914, and the Northwestern Commandery 25, Knights Templar, serving as commander in 1914.  He was the oldest living past officer of the three above groups.

He was also a member of Timothy Alden Council 60, Zem Zem Shrine Temple, Round Table and Stone United Methodist Church.  He was an honorary member of Meadville Rotary Club.

Mr. Allen was active in Red Cross and Untied Fund work.

Surviving are three sons, Clair H. Allen, Jr, and Paul E. Allen both of Meadville and John C. Allen of Cleveland and five grandchildren.

Services were held at the Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Arthur M. Crawford and Rev. Robert Christian.

Interment was in St. Brigid's Cemetery.
