Clara Cook

February 14, 1854 — October 24, 1946

One of the county's oldest residents, and in her earlier years identified with many civic affairs, Mrs. Clara Cook died at her home in Meadville, Thursday afternoon, after a brief illness.  She was 92 years of age.

Mrs. Cook, widow of Samuel Cook, came to Meadville from Buffalo, NY, in 1869; her marriage took place here three years later.

During World War I, Mrs. Cook was active in Red Cross work, and was proud to possess a certificate which showed she had done 1,000 hours of Red Cross service.  In World War II, in spite of impaired eyesight, she was able to do some knitting for the Red Cross.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, and a charter member, as well as the oldest living member, of the local branch of the grand international auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Mrs. Cook is survived by three daughters and a son, Mrs. Ada M. Dixon of Kenmore, NY, Mrs. Homer B. Graves of Seattle, WA, Mrs. H. Chester Pees of Meadville and Arthur R. Cook of Bell River, Ontario, Canada.

Four grandchildren survive:  Clifford W. Graves of North Hollywood, CA, Marion M. Dixon of Kenmore, NY, J. Bradley Dixon of Buffalo, NY, and Cpl. Samuel T. Pees of Meadville, who is expected to arrive home today after a long period of army service in Korea.  Two great-grandchildren also survive.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
