Clara 'Peg' States

Clara “Peg” States, 85, of 11361 Pettis Rd., Meadville, died Monday Sept. 20, 2004 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Carlton, Nov. 5, 1918, a daughter of the late Walter E. and Luetta Shoemaker Hoffman.  She married Ronald P. States June 21, 1937 and he preceded her in death Sept. 12, 1994.

She was a 1936 graduate of Cochranton High School.  She was a homemaker and had worked at Talon, Inc. in the cafeteria for several years.

She had been an active member of Stone United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.  She was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking, sewing, and helping her family and others.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Patricia S. Blair of Pittsburgh; Nancy Nyilyk of Meadville; Gloria Richards and her husband Bill of Reedsville; and Rhonda Higby and her husband Bernie of Pittsburgh; 2 sisters, Grace Noble of Gahanna, OH and Arlene Pratt of Saegertown; a brother, Howard Hoffman of Carlton; 9 grandchildren, Theodore and Troy Blair, Kathleen Cooke, Kelly Long, Susan and Steven Richards, Sarah Bolenbaugh, Julia Baxter, and Jill Rishell; and 6 great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Edward, Robert, and Clarence Hoffman.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Stone United Methodist Church, 956 S. Main St., Meadville with the Rev. William L. Brown, Associate Pastor officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
