Clarence O. Tarr, of Guys Mills, died Thursday, April 7, 2016 surrounded by his family at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born in Jackson Twp., Venango, Co, PA January 20, 1936 a son of Sherman M. and Gertrude L. Becker Tarr.  He married Joyce E. Smith Oakes March 28, 1981 and she survives.

He was a 1953 graduate of Cochranton High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.  He worked for Franklin Steel, Franklin, PA then McDonald Steel in McDonald, OH retiring in 2004.

He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, its Men’s Club and Cursillo.  He was active in prison ministry at SCI Albion and at one time had enjoyed golfing and hunting.  He was one of General G’s floor guys and had been a Scout Master with Boy Scouts of America for several years.

Survivors in addition to his wife Joyce of 35 years, include: a son, Blaine Tarr and his wife Diana of Greenville; a daughter, Kelly Tarr of Meadville; four step sons, Stanley Oakes of Hooversville, PA, James Oakes of Guys Mills, Jason Oakes of Guys Mills and Jared Oakes and his wife Jill of Avon, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Jessica, Luci, Andrew, Ronnie, Bethany, Kayla, Jason Lee, Braden, Olivia, Avery, Logan and Garret; two brothers, William Tarr of Franklin and Homer Tarr and his wife Dorothy of Rocky Grove and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty, Janet and Frances and five brothers, Sherman, Richard, Robert, Donald and Wallace.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 6-9 p-.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with a Scripture Prayer service at 8:45 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills, PA with Fr. Daniel Prez, Celebrant.

Interment with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006 will be in St. Hippolyte Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Hippolyte Church, 25997 State Hwy 27, Guys Mills, PA 16327.
