Clayton Dewey Hanna

November 5, 1951 — April 25, 2024

It is with great sadness, that we share the passing of Clayton Dewey Hanna on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Clayton was born in Grove City, PA on November 5, 1951 to Clara Maude (Burrows) Hanna and Clayton Sylvester Hanna.

He grew up on the family farm in Fredonia, PA, he was one of twelve children.  He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1969.

At 17, he left home with the dream of seeing the country. He began his dream by hitchhiking all across it, seeing almost all the states before settling down.  His favorite part was getting rides from truckers because they would let him sleep in their bunk.

For 13 years, he worked on various dairy farms in the Tri-County Area.  In 1995 he began to work at Lakeview High School in Stoneboro, PA as a custodian.  He retired in 2015, just shy of 20 years of service.

On January 16, 1982, he married the love of his life, Cynthia L. Parkin, at his brother’s home in Cambridge Springs, PA, she survives at home.

He is also survived by his two daughters, Kathryn L. (Hanna) Carvalho and her husband, Fauser, of Warner Robins, GA and Melissa L. (Hanna) Atwell, and her husband, Brian, of Verona, PA with whom he lived.

He is also leaving his brothers, Walter, Milford, Tom and Tim, along with his sisters, Doris, Virginia and Louise.  Clayton also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and his best friend, Gary Bennefield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Janet, Howard, Bruce and Becky. Also his beloved dog, Truffles.

It was Clayton’s wish to be cremated and brought home with his wife.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, PA 16153.  A memorial service is planned for Clayton at Living Word of Plum Church, 200 Elicker Road, Plum, PA 15239 with Rev. Dr. Allen R. Drake doing the service.  It will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Living Word of Plum Church, 200 Elicker Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15239.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made in Clayton’s name to Mercer County Dairy Princess & Promotion, c/o Marlyn Hill, 26 Robert Road, Sandy Lake, PA 16145.
