Cleola Carpenter Mumford, 93, formerly of Guys Mills and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at UPMC Passavant Hospital-McCandless.
She was born July 27, 1924 in Richmond Township, a daughter of Lloyd and Hazel Rubright Carpenter. She married Hugh Dale Mumford June 28, 1947 and he preceded her in death January 9, 2012.
Cleola was a 1946 graduate of Indiana University of PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She taught home economics in the Penncrest School District for 27 years.
A member of New Richmond United Methodist Church, Cleola was a member of the The Card Club and Trowel and Error Garden Club of Richmond Township. She volunteered at Maplewood Elementary School in Mrs. Williams’ class where she was known as Grandma Reader. Cleola enjoyed swimming, golfing, quilting, gardening, traveling extensively, and especially spending time with her family.
Survivors include four children, Hugh J. Mumford and his wife Judith of Guys Mills, Linda A. Mumford of Monroeville, Mark C. Mumford of Lincoln, VT, and David B. Mumford and his wife Madalena of Townville; a sister, Shirley Emery of Brookville; four grandchildren, Miranda Mumford Stonesifer and her husband Clint, Jeremy Mumford, Matthew Mumford and his companion Danielle Mostachetti and Cammie Sands and her husband Jim; three great-grandchildren, Cy William Van Cise, Livia Van Cise and Benjamin Mumford Stonesifer; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie and Jack Carpenter and a sister, Jean Racop.
A memorial service will be Saturday, February 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE with the Rev. Sam Marchetta, Wesbury Chaplain, officiating.
Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
