Clifton Arnold Butcher, 94, of Vernon Twp., Meadville passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at home after a period of declining health. Born December 26, 1927 in Meadville, he was the youngest son of the late Raymond Butcher, Sr. and Thelma Gushard Butcher Palmerio and step-father, Sam Palmerio.
On April 7, 1956 he married Lillian M. White and she preceded him in death January 1, 2009.
Clifton graduated from Meadville High School in 1945 and he attended Allegheny College. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army from 1950-1953. Clifton had worked at Talon, Brown Coal Company, the David Mead Inn and after 27 years as business manager of Edinboro University, he retired in 1987. He was a life member of Keystone Hose Company, Eagles Aerie 429, Elks Lodge 219, American Legion Post 111 and West Mead 2 Vol. Fire Co.
Clifton was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. He played baseball for Meadville High School, Allegheny College, Keystone Hose Company, Pepsi Cola and also managed Art’s Restaurant baseball team. Other athletic endeavors included intramural champion of Edinboro University in ping pong and badminton while in his early 40’s. He also loved golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, playing pool, taking care of his garden and his cat.
Clifton is survived by two sons, Clifton Allen Butcher and his wife, Debbie of Meadville and Randy Butcher and his wife, Dina of Aliquippa; a daughter, Beverly Styborski of Meadville; four grandchildren, Jessica Greenlee and her husband Daryl, Kayla Styborski and Emily and Logan Butcher; a great grandson, Trey Greenlee; a sister, June Nichols of Meadville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Raymond Butcher, Jr.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 7, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m.
Interment with military honors will be in Venango Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
