Clyde E. Smith, 70, of 26415 Plank Road, Guys Mills, died at Meadville Medical Center, Friday October 7, 2005, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Meadville March 7, 1935, a son of the late Clyde A. and May M. Williams Smith. He married Cathie Wagenhouser October 5, 1968, and she preceded him in death December 15, 2003.
He retired from PPG Industries in 1997 as a Packer/Operator after 27 years of service. Previously, he farmed with his brother on the family farm in Randolph Twp.
He served in the US Navy from 1955-1957 stationed aboard the heavy cruiser USS Bremerton. He was a member of the Bradford Gun Club, the Konne-Yaut Indians Shooting Club and the PPG Trap League. He was an excellent marksman, winning many awards.
He attended Gravel Run Presbyterian Church of Woodcock Boro.
He is survived by one brother, Arden L. Smith and his wife Pearl of Greensburg, 1 brother-in-law, Robert Burton of Guys Mills, 1 sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Smith of Guys Mills, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Dorothy M. Burton, and 1 brother, Richard A. Smith.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Monday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will follow Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Viktoria Berlik, pastor of Gravel Run Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
