David Lyle Bird, 59, of Guys Mills, died peacefully at home Monday, November 19, 2007 following a sudden illness.
He was born in Meadville July 9, 1948, a son of David F. and Marybelle Horak Bird, Jr.
He was a 1967 graduate of Randolph High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran from 1969 to 1973 where he served aboard the USS Manatee. He worked for 20 years at Meadville Forging Company and previously worked at McCrosky Tool and Actco Tool. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville and enjoyed hunting, vehicles, and especially being with his family.
He was a member and Deacon of the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills.
Survivors include his mother, Marybelle Bird of Guys Mills; a sister, Sharon Hayes of Guys Mills; 3 nephews, James, Patrick, and Douglas Bradley; a niece, Kathryn Bradley; and great-nieces; great-nephews; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Carol Shiller; paternal grandparents, David and Kathryne Bird, Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Adela Horak.
Calling hours will be today (Tuesday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, 11534 State Hwy 198, Guys Mills. The funeral service will follow Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, P.O. Box 26, Guys Mills, PA 16327 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
