Dagmar Carter North Dekruif

Dagmar Carter North DeKruif, 86, of Meadville, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at her residence following a period of declining health.

She was born March 25, 1923 in Belding, MI, a daughter of the late Frederic C. and Christine Petersen Carter.  She married Wright S. North and subsequently married Dr. Hendrik DeKruif April 2, 1972.

A graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music, she taught piano for over 30 years, including 23 years at Allegheny College as well as private lessons.  Dagmar was a harpist and violinist with the Allegheny Symphony.

She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Meadville.

Survivors, in addition to her husband Hendrik of 37 years, include a daughter, Kristin North of Las Vegas, NV; a son, Frederic North of San Diego, CA; 3 step-daughters, Susan Joyce of Atlanta, GA, Mary Fulton of Boca Raton, FL, and Katherine Walsh of Stutgart, Germany; 2 grandchildren; and 3 step-grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William B. North.

Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 870 Diamond Park, Meadville with the Rev. Larry Donahue, Pastor officiating.

Inurnment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Meadville.
