Dale R. Smiles) Shilling

Dale R. (Little Smiles) Shilling, 62, of Meadville, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at his residence following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born March 21, 1960 in Meadville, a son of John R. (Jack) and Marilyn Holmes Shilling. He married Kimberly Whiting October 11, 1986. Dale was a 1978 graduate of Meadville High School. A member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9, he was owner and operator of Shilling Masonry. Dale was a member of Masonic Lodge 408, Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111, VFW Post 2006, Saegertown American Legion Post 205, Vernon Central Hose Company, Conneaut Lake VFD Station 3, Meadville Hunting and Fishing Club, and the former Meadville Club. Dale loved riding motorcycles, tinkering, golfing, and hunting, especially elk hunting in Colorado with his good friends Norbert and Frieda. He always had a positive attitude and smile on his face. Survivors in addition to his wife, Kim include two children Ashley Shilling (Ben Johnson) of Westland, MI and Eric Shilling of Tempe, AZ; two sisters, Linda Hornstein of Conneaut Lake and Kathy Beard (David) of Sharpsburg, MD; two uncles, Dan Shilling (Sharon) of Conneaut Lake and Ron Shilling (Jeanie) of Charlotte, NC; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Donald Hornstein; and his in-laws, Dean and Shirley Whiting. A celebration of Dales life will be Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. at VFW Post 2006, 1045 S. Morgan St., Meadville. A motorcycle/car ride will be Sunday, July 23, 2023 leaving at 12:00 p.m. from American Legion Post 111, 17137 Cussewago Rd., Meadville to benefit the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Jason Brown, Holly, and the caring staff at the Barco Oncology Institute for the care they provided. Memorials may be made to the Yolanda G.
