Dallas H. Edwards

Dallas H. Edwards, 78, of Meadville, a former leader in the county tuberculosis organization, died Wednesday, January 11, 1984, at City Hospital after a brief illness.

Edwards came to Meadville in 1943 as executive secretary of Crawford County Tuberculosis and Health Society and served for seven years.  He was also a member of the executive committee of PA Public Health Assn. and the National Conference of Executive Secretaries.

Later, he was manager for two years of Warren C. Smith Motors, and in 1954 he purchased the company's tire division, a B. F. Goodrich and Texaco products franchise.  He operated Edwards Tire Service until he retired.

He was born at Hiram, Fulton County, August 10, 1905, a son of Alexander and Carrie Cutshall Edwards.

He earned a BS in education from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1929 and his master of Science degree in schools administration at Penn State in 1932.

He was married June 17, 1938, to Helen F. Foltz, who survives.

He was first employed at Clearfield Junior High School as a science teacher, football coach and guidance counselor, and during the summer he was a golf pro at Clearfield Country Club.

While he lived in Meadville, he was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and he served on the church's board of ushers for 30 years.  He was a member of Meadville Elks Lodge, The Country Club and was a past president and vice president of Meadville Rotary Club.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Craig of Amherst, Mass and Keith of Rocky River, OH; a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Jane) Vincent of London, England; three sisters, Mrs. Florence Brewelheide of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Eleanor Laidig of McConnellsburg and Helen K. Edwards of Waterfall; and four granddaughters.  He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Fairview Methodist Church Cemetery, Fulton County.
