Dan A. Fox

Dan A. Fox, 91, of 16469 Park Ave. Ext., Meadville, died Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Meadville Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in McKeesport January 4, 1918, a son of the late John W. and Elda Staples Brown Fox.  He married Anna Mary Miller July 7, 1951.

Dan was a 1936 graduate of Ludlow High School, Ludlow, PA and attended Penn State University.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946.  He was employed as a supervisor at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare for 14 years.  He previously worked at Woolworth’s, the Retail Credit Company in Crawford County for 7 years, Celina Mutual Insurance Company, Meadville, and Spaulding’s of Meadville.

An active member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Dan was also a member of the Charles Stafford American Legion Post 111, Meadville.  He enjoyed golfing over the years and played basketball, baseball, and track and field while in High School.  He loved horses and collie dogs.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Anna Mary of 58 years, include a niece, Carolyn White and her husband William of Montrose; 3 nephews, Michael T. Bitler and his wife Beth of Analomink, PA, Eric Pardee and his wife Sue of University Heights, OH, and Craig Pardee and his wife Sue of Meadville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Dan A. Fox, Jr.; a brother, John W. Fox, Jr.; and 2 nephews, Charles W. Bitler and Joel Pardee.

Calling hours will be Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 9488 S. Wayland Rd., Meadville where the memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Alice McClymonds, Pastor officiating.

Interment will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
