Dane A. Hogan

June 2, 1942 — March 27, 2007

Dane A. Hogan, 64, of 24098 State Hwy. #198, Saegertown, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a long struggle with cancer and its complications.

He was born in New Kensington June 2, 1942, a son of the late Clair and Helen McElhinney Hogan.  He first married Clara Campbell December 3, 1960, and subsequently married Noreen Steiger Lee February 19, 2003, and she survives.

Dane was a 1961 graduate of Saegertown High School, and had been employed as an Engineer, first with the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad and then with Conrail, for a period of 17 years, he then worked in the maintenance department of Crawford Central School District for 19 years, retiring in 2005.  He was also known for his cooking having owned and operated Silver Bullet Barbecue for many years.

He was a member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee, a member of the Blooming Valley Cemetery Assn., Elks Lodge #219, West Mead #2 Vol. Fire Dept., and the Meadville Club.  He was an outdoorsman, enjoying gardening, hunting and fishing.  His passion was following the Saegertown Girls Basketball team and he was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors in addition to his wife Noreen, include 3 daughters, Deborah Dye and her husband, Michael of Meadville, Kimberly Swanson of Saginaw, TX, and Gina Lee-Whitmer and her husband Brian of Woodstock, GA; 2 sons, Michael Hogan and his wife Terry of Northern Cambria, and Joseph Lee and his wife Aliscia of Dillsburg; his exchange student son, Carlos Restrepo, of Medellin, Colombia; 9 grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher, Steve, Joe, Ashley, Russell, Jeffrey, Maggie, and Alexandra; 5 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, Mona Sproull and her husband Paul of Cleveland, OH, Emmy Slosky and her husband Ken of Conneaut Lake, Winnie Zanotti and her husband Bob of Edinboro and his twin sister, Diane DeEulio and her husband Henry of New Castle; 1 brother, Ray Hogan and his wife Dorothy of Sanford, NC; 3 sisters-in-law, Geraldine Hogan of Meadville, Christine Aylsworth and her husband Warren of Meadville, and Dorothy Collins and her husband Dale of Guys Mills; 1 brother-in-law, Fred Steiger and his wife Jeanette of Conneaut Lake; a granddaughter-in-law, Valerie Lauer, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Cpl. Timothy Lauer, a brother, William Hogan, and a sister-in-law, Hally Deeter.

Calling hours will be today from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc. 581 Chestnut St. with an Elks Lodge service at 6:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cynthia K. Schneider, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in Blooming Valley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
