Daniel “Danny” James Dilley, 58, of 1261 Lavista Road, Atlanta, GA and a former Meadville resident, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 in Atlanta.
He was born in Meadville November 28, 1944 a son of John and Mary Shellenberger Dilley.
He lived most of his school age years at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Home for Children in Erie until his 18th birthday. Once he came of age, he returned to live and work around the Meadville/Crawford County area. He worked several places here in Crawford County, including the former Meadville Malleable Iron Co. and the Ardvark Sanitation Co. just to name a few. He left Meadville in 1981 when he moved to Atlanta and made it his new home. He was also known and loved in Atlanta as “Papa” by six emotionally adopted grandchildren and also by the four children of Sylvia Hays from the Crawford County area.
Survivors, include his wife and partner of eight years, Kim Kelly and her two children of Atlanta; three sisters, Betty Obagy of Guys Mills, Anita Taylor of Moyie Springs, ID and Marjorie Malleum of Milwaukee, WI; two sons Brad Rosse of Conneaut Lake and Randy Bernard and four grandchildren in the Crawford County area and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his sister and brother-in-law Ellen and Bob Kern and his brother-in-law Bill Obagy both of whom he had once lived with and was particularly close.
A graveside service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Cemetery with Fr. Gregory P. Passauer, Pastor of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will be in St. Agatha Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
