Daniel J. O'Day, 77, of Meadville, died at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Sunday, August 27, 1978, after a short illness. He had been hospitalized five days.
Born in Corry, May 20, 1901, he was a son of Daniel J. and Helena Harrington O'Day. He married Elizabeth Dutch who died in 1953. O'Day retired in 1966 from the Erie Lackawanna Railway Co. where he had been employed for 47 years as a machinist. He was a member of St. Birgid's Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Meadville Aerie of Eagles.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Merle (Helene) Welsh of Williamsville, NY, Miss Patricia O'Day at home, Mrs. Charles (Katherine) Maynard of Conneaut Lake and Mrs. Dwight (Mary) Heluse of Cazenovia, NY; three sons, Daniel J. of Dix Hills, NY, Thomas J. of Conneaut Lake and Michael D. of Meadville; a brother, Joseph H. of Meadville and twelve grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph and a sister, Lillian.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in St. Brigid's Cemetery.
