Daryl L. Lake

Daryl L. Lake, 78, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Meadville Medical Center following a lengthy and courageous battle of declining health.

He was born January 14, 1939 in Meadville, a son of Harry O. (Pete) Lake and Thelma Riede Lake Ullom.  He is survived by his cherished wife Beverly A. Bowes Lake, whom he married June 3, 1961.

Daryl was a 1957 graduate of Townville High School and attended Edinboro University and Hofstra University.  He was a graduate of Stone Trades School in Barre, VT.  In his younger years, Daryl worked at Carpenter Packing Plant, Conneaut Lake Park and the American Viscose.  He subsequently was employed by the Commonwealth of PA at the Dept. of Public Welfare, Polk Center, and Edinboro University.

A lifetime member of Townville United Methodist Church, Daryl was also a lifetime member of the NRA and North American Hunting Club.  He was a 40-year member of the Townville Lions Club. He also belonged to several hunting groups in Canada including the Salmonds Hunting Club.  He was an avid reader with special interest in WWII history.  He enjoyed hunting and attending auctions, and absolutely loved spending time at the family cottage in Canada.

Survivors, in addition to Beverly, his loving wife of 56 years, include a son, Lee O. Lake and his wife Darlene of Guys Mills; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Farrell and her husband Patrick of Catonsville, MD; four grandchildren, Emma and Joshua Lake and Killian and Kieron Farrell; a step-grandson, Kyle Wilson; a step-great-grandson, Damon Wilson; a sister, Sharon Villa of Sewickley; a brother-in-law, Leigh Bowes and his wife Janet of Cambridge Springs; a sister-in-law, Linda Ebbert of Madison, OH; two aunts, Charlene (Tudy) Huckins of Union City and June Lake of Winter Haven, FL; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.  Daryl held several other people especially close to his heart:  Lou Villa, Jim Darling and Keith Bechtel who passed away on July 30th.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward Ullom; a granddaughter, Amelia Jane Lake; and a step-grandson, Aaron Wilson.

Calling hours will be Sunday, August 6th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

The funeral service will be Monday, August 7th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Tubbs, retired United Methodist Clergyman and longtime friend, officiating.

Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
