Datus W. Hunter, 100, was a recipient of the Purple Heart while serving with the US Army in France during World War I.
Hunter, of Meadville, died Monday, June 13, 1994, at his home after an illness of several months.
He was born in Enterprise, March 31, 1894, a son of Sherman and Lillian Seeley Hunter. He married Anna G. Swavey, June 19, 1923. She survives.
He retired from Talon, Inc. as a machine operator after 26 years of service. He previously was a dairy farmer in West Mead Township. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Evangeline) Fitzsimmons and Mrs. Pearl (Viola) Anthony, both of Meadville; two sons, Merle Hunter and Walter Hunter, both of Meadville; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Dingle of Zimmerman, MN.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nile Hunter and Solomon Hunter.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
