David A. Kirk, 87, of Guys Mills, died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born in Richmond Township, Crawford County September 18, 1924, a son of George Thomas and Belva Roudebush Kirk. He married Lois C. Slack and she survives.
David was a graduate of Meadville High School and a graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. He was a Veteran of World War, serving with the U.S. Army 39th infantry division in the European Theater of Operations. He worked as a chemist at Talon and General American Transportation and subsequently was the manager of the Butler Area Sewer Authority for over 25 years. Following his retirement, he worked for Penncrest and Ft. LeBoeuf School Districts as the clerk of the works.
David was an active member of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities. He was also a former board member of the Blooming Valley Cemetery Association.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Lois of 63 years, include a daughter, Pamela Bomboy and her husband Barry of Richmond, VA; three sons, Andrew Kirk of Independence, CA, Daniel Kirk of Denver, CO, and Albert Kirk and his wife Theresa of Portage, IN; three brothers, Rev. Arthur Kirk of Plain City, OH, Ted Kirk and his wife Ruth of Asheville, NC, and Paul Kirk and his wife Charlotte of Cambridge Springs; two sisters, Martha Burchard of Meadville and Margaret Held of Venice, FL; two grandchildren, Erin and Joseph; two step-grandchildren, Danielle and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Dustin and Autumn; and numerous nieces, nephews, step-nieces, and step-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Cole and three brothers, Lloyd, Elton, and Edwin Kirk.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Beverly Spore, Pastor of Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blooming Valley United Methodist Church, 24740 State St., Meadville, PA 16335.
