David E. (Swede) Anderson, 86, of Franklin Pike, Meadville, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Crawford County Care Center following a period of declining health.
He was born March 31, 1931 in Smethport, a son of Edward and Emma Bengston Anderson. He married Nancy Benson November 29, 1958 and she survives.
David was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Heavy Highway Carpenter’s Union Local 2274, Pittsburgh.
David was a former member of the Meadville Antique Car Club. He enjoyed antique cars and woodworking.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Nancy of 58 years, include two daughters, Debra Backhus and her husband Fred (Buzz) of Warren and Trina Brace and her husband Robert of Meadville; four grandchildren, Fred (Swede) Backhus and his wife Brittany, Tiffany Larson and her husband Erik, Aaron Brace, and Alec Brace and his fiancée Brooke; two great-grandchildren, Frederick and Annalyn Backhus; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Ralph Anderson.
A memorial service will be Sunday, August 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
